Gardens for Life Painted Plants  Plant Facts

Project Aim: 'To develop a new international learning strategy which integrates the global dimension with gardening, science teaching, and school partnerships.'

This project brings young people and teachers in Cornwall, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Kenya and India together to share their experience of gardening and classroom learning, integrating the global dimension into core curriculum learning.

The pilot schools have all established gardens to grow food crops. Teachers have been encouraged to use the designing, development and management of gardens for teaching curriculum subjects (materials are being developed to support this) and the global issues around food. The students also now have a common basis of experience to communicate with the other schools in their group... questions about where our food comes from and how our lives are inter-connected across the globe through food... questions about food and nutrition and malnutrition in all communities... how do diets vary in different cultures?...how do social, economic and environmental factors influence nutrition and food security in our communities?..questions about the growing of food locally and around the world...
