.Tsunami and RRI

Rainforest Rescue International will suspend its normal activities for the coming three months initially due to the disaster which struck the Coast line of Sri Lanka and has identified four areas it can be useful in medium term.

These are:

Eco friendly Housing,

Livelihoods of eco traders and crafts people in the area,

Waste management

School children counseling through activity play and environmental education.

In the short term we are already active as part of a NGO consortium (Project 2005, These are dealing with the immediate needs and logistics of the communities in the areas around Galle).

Being a National NGO based in Galle with a certain infrastructure capacity but foremost with knowledge of the local situation and having good contacts, RRI will be able to assist with coordination of the efforts.

We eventually need certain funds to secure payment of our own staff (many directly affected by the tsunami) and additional staff requirements. At the moment we do think that those cost can be met for the coming months from internal available funds.

However the four projects mentioned above do need immediate support and if you have additional funds and want to support any of those projects in particular, please donate mentioning for which project you donate.

RRI will secure that these funds will go to the most affected of the disaster.

Thank you.
